Dear Svetlana and Gheorghe,
Welcome to Access Path to Success!
I'm so glad I was chosen to be your mentor and I'm eager to work with you and offer any constructive thoughts. I'm sure we are going to enjoy this project, it's a chance for us to learn and ultimately it helps our students.
Please feel free to write any questions or thoughts in this forum as we move forward.
Take care,
Sheryl
Hello dear Sheryl,
ReplyDeleteI really liked the idea of working with newspapers during our
English classes. What's your opinion about this method, as probably
you used it many times. What types of newspapers could you recommend us to work with. (Our students are 14-16 y.o and have a pre-intermediate English level). Can you give me some examples of e-sources and great themes to work on?
Thanks, T. Gheorghe
Dear Gheorghe,
ReplyDeleteI think students this age enjoy sports, fashion, and sometimes politics. I think the best idea is to expose the students to a few different articles and then see which topics interest them the most. As for as good newspapers, I think the local newspaper is always good, as students are able to relate to the things going on in the region. If you're interested in an international newspaper, I'd recommend BBC or NY Times, although both of these can be complicated to read.
I look forward to corresponding with you,
Sheryl
dear Sheryl,
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you have ever created blogs for a group of your students? If yes, how did it work?? Students age? how active they were?
Thanks a lot,
Svetlana
Dear Svetlana, I have primarily created blogs for groups of students when taking them on international trips. This is a wonderful way for them to share information with each other, their families, and their friends. Additionally, it gave them opportunities to journal about their experiences - I believe it is something they will go back and read for years. The majority of students were very active, although there were a few that rarely wrote.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Sheryl
dear Sheryl, thanks much for your answer! We have many groups on social networks, especially Facebook ( you can see our ACCESS Causeni group https://www.facebook.com/groups/434927129977447/). This page is watched and commented not just by our 20 ACCESS students, but also by lots of their friends, family members, classmates, and just others who like their activities. Hope you visit it and like it, too!
ReplyDeleteAll the best,
Svetlana
